Bibb sheriffs investigators say they have plenty of work ahead to catch the killer of a 25-year-old Macon man fatally shot early Thursday.
Terrance Vanderrick Dent Jr., of Villa Esta Avenue, suffered wounds to his chest and thigh shortly before 4 a.m. in the 600 block of Grenada Terrace, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.
Dent was pronounced dead at 4:35 a.m. at The Medical Center of Central Georgia, Jones said.
He didnt mess with nobody, Dents sister said at the scene.
Other family members gathered at Dents home a couple of blocks away, but were too upset to share more about the father of two girls, one 6 months old and the other 4 years old.
Deputies initially roped off Grenada Terrace near San Juan Avenue so crime scene investigators could gather evidence.
Small clusters of neighbors sat silently on their front porches and watched events unfold in the nights final hours of darkness before dawn.
A dark silver Dodge Durango with a dealer tag was parked on the street with at least one door open when investigators arrived, but Dents sister said she didnt know to whom the car belonged.
Technicians took pictures of the Durango and towed it to the crime lab for further processing.
Officers also gathered items from inside the porch at 688 Grenada Terrace and were interested in a familiar light silver Caprice Classic parked in the front yard. It might have been at the scene of another shooting a couple of years ago, one of the detectives said.
The Classic had a navy blue hood and matching front panels on the driver side and cartoon images of a reclining Bugs Bunny on both sides of the car with the phrase Ehh, whats up doc? on the back fender.
Crime scene technicians removed evidence taken from the property in at least three brown paper bags.
Shortly after the sun came up, investigators huddled in the street and then set out to follow leads.
Dent was originally charged with murder and aggravated assault in the Nov. 20, 2010, slaying of 20-year-old Denzel Clark on Cleveland Avenue.
Charges against him and two others were dismissed after Germany Durrell Ray pleaded guilty to killing Clark during a large party off of Vineville Avenue where a 17-year-old girl was also shot.
Dent also was implicated as a party to the crime of armed robbery in July 2007, but the case was dead-docketed after his co-defendent pleaded guilty.
In July 2010, Dent pleaded guilty to possession of marijuana with intent to distribute in a case from November 2008.
In February of this year, Dents probation officer petitioned Superior Court to have his probation revoked for a number of reasons.
According to the petition, Dent tested positive for marijuana in January 2013, failed to report as directed and had at least six times violated the curfew that mandated he be home from 7 p.m.-6 a.m.
The petition also stated Dent had committed the new offenses of obstruction in May 2013 and simple battery, family violence in December of last year.
Dent was arrested on the probation violation Feb. 18 and stayed in the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center until Tuesday evening, when he was released for time served. The battery charge was dropped, according to jail records.
