Authorities in south Dodge County who were searching for a woman reported missing last week found a decomposing body in the woods there Tuesday afternoon.

Todd Lowery, special agent in charge of the GBI’s Eastman office, said, “We have discovered a body in the area of where she was last seen.”

The missing woman, whose name was not immediately available, had been reported missing Friday, the agent said.

As of Tuesday evening, the body, found about 1:45 p.m. near a recreation area, had not been identified.

“The lab’s trying to do its work before we’ll know,” Lowery said.

The place where the body was found, not far from the well-known Jaybird Springs, has a Helena address. The area lies north of U.S. 341 between McRae and Eastman, about 60 miles southeast of Macon.
