Houston County school board to present decision-making forum

The Houston County school board is presenting a “shared decision-making forum” Wednesday evening.

Attendees will hear about federal programs, system achievement and the budget, and they will be able to ask questions and comment.

The forum is part of a shared-decision protocol the district follows, said Jennifer Birdsong, director of federal programs.

In Houston County, 23 of 38 schools receive funding under the federal Title I program, which is meant to provide additional support for children academically at risk. Schools have discretion as to how to use the money. Some have chosen to develop after school programs and some have hired additional support staff, Birdsong said.

District officials will use feedback from school and district-level shared decision-making forums and surveys to write and update the budget for the next year, Birdsong said.

Wednesday’s forum will be held from 6-7 p.m. at the school board office, 1100 Main St., Perry.
