A Suburban and a Range Rover collided early Sunday, killing one man and injuring four others.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m. at Columbus Road near Ivey Drive on the back side of Middle Georgia State College, Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

Jones pronounced 32-year-old Patrick Howard, of Macon, dead at the scene.

Howard was the front seat passenger in the Suburban, according to a Bibb Sheriff’s Office news release. The female driver, 30, was critically hurt and two children, a 9-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, in the SUV also were hurt. The three were transported to The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

Yolanda Howard, Patrick Howard’s sister, was at the hospital Sunday afternoon and said Priscilla Smith, the woman in the Suburban, and the two children are in stable condition.

Yolanda and Patrick Howard grew up in Roberta. She confirmed the two children in the Suburban were his.

“He was fun,” Howard said of her brother. “A great person to be around. No matter if you were happy or sad he was the guy to be there for you. He was a great father. He had a job and went to work everyday.”

Aaron Hendley, 28, of Macon, was the driver of the Range Rover. He was transported to the Medical Center and was listed in stable condition, the sheriff’s office news release stated. The fatal traffic accident is under investigation.
