Memorial Day observances

Here’s a sampler of Memorial Day observances across Middle Georgia this weekend:

• Memorial Day Observance Program: 2 p.m. Sunday at Andersonville National Cemetery. The service traditionally includes a music program, speaker and the placement of memorial wreaths in front of the rostrum.

• Memorial Day Remembrance Program: 10 a.m. Monday. Macon Memorial Park, 3969 Mercer University Drive, Macon. Maj. Gen. Robert C. Hughes Jr. (retired) is the keynote speaker.

• Memorial Day Service: 11 a.m. Monday, Linwood Cemetery, Walnut Street. The speaker will be Ronnie L. Mays, a senior parole officer for the state Board of Pardons and Paroles in Macon.

• Memorial Day ceremony: 11 a.m. Monday at Magnolia Park Cemetery & Mausoleum, 205 S. Pleasant Hill Road, Warner Robins.

• Memorial Day ceremony: 11 a.m. Monday at Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. Highlights include Patriot Guard riders, Knights of Columbus and the Georgia National Guard honor guard detail.

• Fifth Annual Fort Hill Cemetery Memorial Day Observance: 1 p.m. Monday at Fort Hill Cemetery, Short Street, Macon. Following a brief commemorative service, Fort Hawkins will be open for tours of the three-story blockhouse replica and archaeological dig site.
