$20,000 reward offered in Lake Oconee killing, vanishing

The FBI is offering a $20,000 reward for information in a decapitation-and-disappearance case that has baffled authorities for more than a week.

Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills said Wednesday afternoon that his office may arrange for more reward money.

The slaying and decapitation of Russell Dermond, 88, and the vanishing of his wife, Shirley, 87, has left investigators with few leads.

Russell Dermond’s headless body was found in the garage of his Lake Oconee home May 6. His wife is still missing and may have been kidnapped, investigators have said.

If you have information about the case, you can contact the FBI at (404) 679-9000 or the Putnam sheriff’s office at (706) 485-8557.
