Early voting coming to a close

Friday is the last day to vote early in Houston County, and those who wait will need to go to their polling place on May 20.

Until then, early voters may cast ballots at the Board of Elections office at 801 Main St. in Perry from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Two additional early voting locations are available at the old Houston Mall and Central Georgia Technical College, Building G.

On May 20, voters must go to their assigned polling place to vote between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Houston County has made changes to several polling places, and residents can check their designated location in several ways.

• Visit the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page at http://mvp.sos.state.ga.us;

• Download the GA Votes app for your mobile device; or

• Call the Houston County Board of Elections office at 478-987-1973.

Houston to sell items at surplus auction

If you are in the market for some fire hoses, a worn out Crown Victoria or some quaint electronics, Houston County can hook you up this week.

The county is holding a surplus auction at 10 a.m. Thursday at the county warehouse at 2022 Kings Chapel Road in Perry.

Among items to be sold are 17 Ford Crown Victorias, most with 150,000 miles or more. Lots of computer equipment including monitors and laptops are up for sale, but you might have to buy in large quantities. Many are sold in lots of a dozen or more each.

You can also pick up a couple Palm Pilots and VCRs for your electronics museum, but those come in a lot with numerous other items, including laminators, staplers and calculators.

There are many printers, processors and various other office equipment.

The items can be viewed Wednesday from 1-4 p.m. and an hour before the auction. For more information, call the Purchasing Department at 478-218-4800.
