Church sponsoring tour of Houston homes, gardens

Centerville United Methodist Church will be sponsoring a Garden Tour and Luncheon on June 7. The proceeds will be used to help upgrade the church kitchen.

This is the tour’s second year.

The tour will include six beautiful gardens in the Warner Robins/Centerville area and the homes of Deborah and Tom Mason, 130 Van Drive (off South Houston Lake Road); Grace and Aubrey Dillard, 106 Hope Place (off Russell Parkway); Dana and Sean Rollins, 106 Carriage Run (off South Houston Lake Road in Mill Pond Plantation); Joy and Ken Raynor, 226 Cartwright Drive (off Feagin Mill Road or Ga. 96); and Kay and Roger Darnell, 110 MacIntosh Lane in the Eagle Springs subdivision (off Gunn Road or North Houston Lake Boulevard).

The tour will also include the Bird Sanctuary and Courtyard gardens at Centerville United Methodist Church.

Ferrelle Bagley, one of the organizers of the tour, said those attending will have the opportunity to see a variety of gardens.

“There will be a bog garden and koi ponds and lots of yard art. There is a zero-lot-line garden, which shows what you can do tastefully with a small yard, and a whimsical garden that will put a smile on your face. There is a traditional garden with great planning and a rolling garden on a lake. As you enter, you will see fenced-in pastures of cows and donkeys wandering around,” Bagley said. Attendees will also get to see a garden that has a playhouse and a tree house.

The Bird Sanctuary Garden at the church features a huge dogwood tree with lots of bird houses.

“Our Courtyard Garden makes you want to sit and visit a spell. It is so very peaceful.” Bagley said.

Tickets for the tour and luncheon cost $20 each. Tickets for the tour only cost $15. the tour will be 9 a.m.-noon with the luncheon 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. at the church social hall.
