A 50-year-old woman drowned last week on Lake Sinclair in Putnam County.

Vicki L. Stephens’ body was found on the bottom of the lake near her home Thursday evening, said Coroner Gary McElhenney.

“We don’t really know what happened, but she wound up in the water,” McElhenney said. “She was by herself. There was no one around.”

Sheriff Howard Sills sent a couple of his investigators from the Russell Dermond homicide case to the scene, but there was no indication of foul play.

McElhenney said a Friday autopsy determined Stephens drowned.

“There are so many (possible) scenarios, but we do feel like it was an accidental death,” McElhenney said.
