A woman who told deputies that drug dealers ran over and killed her boyfriend Friday night has now been charged with killing him.

Bibb County sheriff’s investigators were called to a report of a person screaming for help about 10:30 p.m. Friday behind the post office at 1040 Pio Nono Ave., according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

They found 24-year-old Martegus Jamell Johnson unresponsive.

Johnson was pronounced dead at The Medical Center of Central Georgia about 10:50 p.m., Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones said.

His girlfriend, Tasha Yolanda Phillips, who is seven months pregnant, also was assaulted and taken to the hospital.

Phillips originally said the couple had gone to buy drugs and two dealers had attacked her. She said Johnson tried to intervene and was attacked before the men ran over him in their silver Chevy Trailblazer, the release said.

Witness interviews and detective work led investigators to the conclusion that the couple was actually fighting themselves, and Phillips hit Johnson with her 2004 black Ford Explorer.

Deputies issued warrants for Phillips’ arrest on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault and tampering with evidence.
