A 78-year-old Twiggs County man died Monday evening after an accident on U.S. 80 outside of Jeffersonville.

Earl Waller Sr., of Crescent Road in Jeffersonville, was headed west just before 4 p.m. Monday when he crashed about 6 miles out of town, said Twiggs County Deputy Coroner James Davidson.

The Georgia State Patrol trooper investigating the crash reported that Waller went off the right side of the highway, swerved back across both lanes and went off the left side of the road and hit a tree about a half mile east of Marion Ripley Road.

Waller was pronounced dead after 7 p.m. Monday at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

His 1989 Ford F-150 pickup was destroyed by fire, according to the GSP report.

A passenger, 52-year-old Mark Curry of Jeffersonville, also was injured and taken to the Medical Center, the report stated.

No further information was immediately available about Curry's condition.
