Mercer quarterback John Russ (7) scores a touchdown in the first half of their game against Stetson Saturday.

The Mercer football team will play its first three home games this season under the lights, the program announced Tuesday in a release.

Mercer’s season opener will be a Thursday night affair, with the Bears hosting Reinhardt at 7 p.m. on Aug. 28.

The Sept. 6 Southern Conference opener against Furman also will be a night game, scheduled for a 6 p.m. kickoff. Also slated for a 6 p.m. kickoff will be the Bears’ Sept. 20 non-conference home game against Ave Maria.

The remainder of Mercer’s home schedule — Oct. 11 against Austin Peay, Oct. 18 against Western Carolina, Nov. 1 against The Citadel and Nov. 15 against Warner — will have 4 p.m. kickoffs.

Game times for two of Mercer’s road games have been set. Mercer will play at Stetson at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 and at VMI at 1:30 p.m. on Sept. 27. That leaves games Oct. 4 at Samford, Oct. 25 at Chattanooga and Nov. 22 at Wofford without kickoff times assigned.

Also Tuesday, Mercer announced the deadline for season ticket renewals has been extended to May 7. Season ticket sales to the general public will begin May 19.
