Crawford County seeks recreation director

Crawford County is hoping its first-ever recreation director will grow with the program.

The county is advertising for a part-time position to start at $12,500 per year, County Manager Pat Kelly said. The county’s recreation program has outgrown the ability of its volunteer recreation board to fully oversee.

“It’s to the point where we need boots on the ground,” Kelly said. “We need people responsible for the various sports we want to push. We’ve got lots of people interested in soccer.”

Other potential programs include adult leagues for softball and volleyball. Meanwhile, a youth baseball program has registered more than 200 young people, up from about 150 two years ago. Kelly said he hopes the position will become full-time in the next 18 months as the recreation program grows.

“It’s tough to start part time and get to full time. We understand that. But we’re trying to find somebody who can fit that mold. Our rec department is growing, and we need somebody at the helm,” he said.

A job description and an application are posted on the county’s website, Applications are due May 16.
