Macon-Bibb County firefighters were called to the First Quality diaper plant facility on Industrial Highway in south Bibb County on Wednesday night.

Macon-Bibb County firefighters responded Wednesday evening to a 6:41 p.m. call about a fire at a diaper plant facility at 7510 Industrial Highway, according to an emergency dispatcher.

“At this point and time we do have it under control, and there were no injuries as a result of the fire,” Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said at 9:45 p.m.

The main manufacturing plant of First Quality, which makes baby diapers and training pants, is on Avondale Mill Road.

There were at least seven fire trucks on the scene at the Industrial Highway location about 9 p.m., but there were no visible flames from outside the building. A ladder from one of the trucks was extended toward the roof, and a fire hose had been pulled into the building.

Riggins said there was a fire in a piece of machinery, and the fire spread to ductwork near the machine. He expected fire units to remain at the scene until about midnight.
