Central High baseball field to be rededicated to Smith

Interim Bibb County school Superintendent Steve Smith has a baseball field named after him. Now he’s getting the plaque to prove it.

Guests and former students will gather at Central High School at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday to rededicate the school’s baseball field.

The field was originally named the Dr. E. Steve Smith Field in honor of the former Central High coach and principal on Nov. 1, 2009. No sign or plaque was ever placed at the field, though.

After the dedication Wednesday, Smith will throw out the first pitch at Central’s baseball game against Wilkinson County at 5 p.m.

Smith, who was named interim school superintendent nearly a year ago, will be leaving the post this summer.
