WARNER ROBINS -- After weeks of negotiation between government officials and Little League, Snellgrove Drive reopened Tuesday. At least one car went past the gates honking.

Mayor Randy Toms told the Warner Robins Rotary Club, “The gates are open, and they will remain open.”

A deal to reopen the gates was completed Tuesday morning after Toms talked to Little League International in Williamsport, Pa.

“Their concerns were speeding, loitering and vandalism, and we are going to look at every avenue we can as far as reducing speed, putting some extra patrols occasionally out there, in conjunction with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department, to try to cut down on some of the incidents they may be having in that area,” Toms said in a message to The Telegraph.

Little League spokesman Brian McClintock said concerns included speeding and vandalism.

“We want to make sure that anybody going through there is keeping safe. ... We’re working with the city to make sure there’s more monitoring and some speed bumps and better signage to make sure everything remains a safe roadway,” he said.

He could not say whether the vandalism was reported to police.

Little League closed Snellgrove Drive several weeks ago, cutting off direct access between Hunt Road and Cohen Walker Drive, including soccer fields, Perdue Elementary School and Houston County High School.

Little League’s Southeastern Region Headquarters is located off the road. A plat shows Snellgrove Drive as an 80-foot easement that should never be closed to the public.
