The men and women who respond to cries for help coming into the Macon-Bibb 911 Center lightened things up a bit during this weeks National Public Safety Telecommunications Week.
Operators enjoyed Dress Down Day, Sports Day, Hat Day, Hawaiian Luau Day and 70s Day. They culminated the celebration with a barbecue lunch Friday.
Its just relaxing in and of itself to come out of the uniform and laugh, said Shandel Graham, who trains communications workers. Its comic relief. You get to laugh and interact with each other.
Mayor Robert Reichert, Sheriff David Davis and Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Marvin Riggins stopped by to thank the workers for their service.
Reichert applauded the first of its kind celebration as a way of team building and boosting morale in a high-stress job.
You are the first point of contact that so many people have with our consolidated government, Reichert told the communications workers. So what you do is of critical importance and not just for life and death situations.
