Hunt for glowing Easter eggs at High Falls state Park

lshirley@macon.comApril 18, 2014

Instead of sunrise, High Falls State Park is taking its Easter celebration to sunset, with a Glow in the Dark Easter Egg Hunt.

Starting at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, kids of all ages will go out in waves -- beginning with the youngest age group and moving up -- in search of the 1,000 plastic eggs that will be hidden for them, said park resource manager Alyson Snipes.

“We wanted to have a big, fun event for the community. This is something that other state parks have done, and we wanted to get in on the fun,” she said.

The park will have some bags on hand, but visitors are asked to bring Easter baskets for their search. The eggs will be turned in after the approximately 45-minute hunt, and candy and other prizes will be handed out for the eggs.

“The kids will get to keep the glow sticks from inside the eggs, and we’ve had a lot of prizes donated to give away. We also have a golden-egg type thing for a big prize,” Snipes said.

There is no fee for the hunt, but park-goers will have to purchase a $5 parking pass or have an annual pass. For more information, call 478-993-3053.
