A 23-year-old man wanted on escape and robbery charges in Washington was jailed in Macon earlier this week.

Damon Zeigler of 3044 Bloomfield Drive was arrested Wednesday after his girlfriend called police and accused him of stealing her car, her purse and other items.

As Bibb County sheriff’s deputy Marcus Baker drove up at a Pinewood Park Apartment residence in west Macon, he saw Zeigler about to leave in the woman’s Hyundai Elantra, an incident report said.

Baker stopped the car and made Zeigler return the woman’s car keys, her cellphone and $110 he’d hidden in his sock, the report said.

Zeigler, charged with theft and jailed, was later found to be wanted for escape and a probation violation in Washington.

According to that state’s prison system, Zeigler has been at large for more than a year. The Seattle Times reported his arrest in June 2009 on robbery and kidnapping charges for his alleged role in the stickup of a man who was abducted while he was having sex with a prostitute.
