WARNER ROBINS -- From June 2013 to January, 4,813 students passed through the Houston County school district’s Central Registration office either to enroll as a new student or to transfer schools.

In an effort to make the process faster and more convenient for families new to Houston schools, the district is now offering online registration.

“It will help decrease their time at Central Registration,” said Cindy Flesher, assistant superintendent for school operations.

Parents still need to physically go to Central Registration to submit required documents, but they will be able to complete the following information online: student and parent names, address, phone numbers, contact preferences, emergency contacts and school pickup authorizations.

The district will register children for kindergarten starting May 1 for the 2014-15 school year. Children currently in the county pre-k program will already be enrolled for kindergarten, but parents who are enrolling their child in Houston County schools for the first time are encouraged to use the new online registration form.

To register for kindergarten, students must be 5 years old by Sept. 1.

English and Spanish versions of the online form are available at www.hcbe.net under the Central Registration tab. Parents will need to have an email address to use the form but may also complete the paperwork in person 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Central Registration office, located at the Bert Rumble Complex at 303 S. Davis Drive in Warner Robins.
