A Rutland High School student was charged April 9 with possession of a weapon on campus after a loaded handgun was discovered in his vehicle.

The 17-year-old had swapped vehicles with his parent and drove the parent’s vehicle to school. Police discovered a loaded handgun, several canisters of pepper spray and several stun guns in the vehicle. At no time were any of the weapons brought inside the school, said Stephanie Hartley, Bibb County schools spokeswoman.

The student was taken to the county jail.
