Lamar County promotes defensive coordinator

jheeter@macon.comApril 16, 2014

Lamar County defensive coordinator Jamie Abrams will replace Franklin Stephens as the head coach at Lamar County.

Abrams previously served as an assistant at Dublin, South Paulding and East Paulding in Georgia. He was the head coach at Wadley in Alabama, going 5-6 in 2010.

Abrams came to Barnersville from Dublin when Stephens arrived in 2012. The Trojans went 26-2-1 during the two seasons under Stephens. The Trojans’ defense allowed more than 20 points only once during the season. The defense played outstanding in its final two games, shutting down an explosive Benedictine offense in a 10-7 win in the semifinals and slowing down Lovett in a 14-7 loss in the state championship game.

Stephens left Barnesville for Ware County in March. Stephens is 90-8-1 as a head coach.
