Ringing cellphone gives away accused armed robber in Warner Robins

WARNER ROBINS -- An 18-year-old was arrested after the cellphone he’s accused of stealing started ringing, alerting police to his whereabouts.

Denzel Cortez Rutledge of Warner Robins was charged with armed robbery in the Tuesday night incident on Lisa Drive, a Warner Robins police news release stated.

Police dispatched to the personal armed robbery were told the suspect, later identified as Rutledge, had fled into a nearby apartment, the release stated. The officers had a 911 operator call the number for the stolen cellphone and heard it ringing from inside the apartment.

Rutledge, who was being held Wednesday at the Houston County jail, has an extensive arrest history, the release stated.
