Kent: Houston, Peach forestry queens crowned

April 16, 2014

The Houston County and Peach County Forestry Pageants were held on March 30, and two young women will be reigning the next year as Forestry Queens.

Brianna Russ, a 2013 graduate of Warner Robins High School, will reign for the next year as the Houston County Forestry Queen while Liana Goff, a 2012 graduate of Perry High School, will reign as the Peach County Forestry Queen.

Russ is a student at Middle Georgia State College; Goff attends Central Georgia Technical College. Both will represent their respective counties in the state forestry pageant to be held in June in Tifton. This year marks the 75th Georgia State Forestry Pageant. Several special events to commemorate the anniversary have been planned.

Other queens crowned at the Houston and Peach pageants, which were held at the Cochran-Bleckley County Chamber of Commerce auditorium in conjunction with other Middle Georgia forestry pageants, include:

• Houston County Forestry Teen Queen -- Kelsey Hollis;

• Houston County Forestry Junior Queen -- Briley Grady;

• Houston County Forestry Little Queen -- Madison Mules;

• Houston County Forestry Tiny Queen -- Britten Roller; and

• Peach County Forestry Teen Queen -- Stella Mills.

While several queens were crowned, there is still an opportunity to reign as a Forestry Queen.

According to the Vicki Lovett, who coordinates the pageants for Houston and Peach counties, there was a lack of contestants in several age categories. Lovett has opened up the categories and will appoint winners.

“The only difference is that since they weren’t crowned, they will have to pay their entry fee to the Miss Georgia Forestry pageant. They will get a local crown and sash and do all the local appearances,” said Lovett.

Categories that were not crowned include Teeny Houston for children 2 to 3 years; Junior Peach for children 10 to 12 years; Little Peach for children 7 to 9 years; Tiny Peach for children 4 to 6 years and Teeny Peach for children 2 to 3 years.
