Eagles pick up subregion win; Bears no longer undefeated
The GHSA 2B-AAAAA baseball race witnessed a pair of firsts recently, and both came in the last week of the subregion schedule.
Northside picked up its first and only subregion win in dramatic fashion over the rival Warner Robins Demons Friday. Northside trailed by six runs early but shut out the Demons the rest of the way and got a pair of home runs from senior Ethan Broome for a 9-7 win. Broomes second home run knocked in three and put the Eagles ahead.
Houston County entered Saturdays game against Jones County with a perfect 8-0 subregion record but fell 9-4 for its first loss in 15 games.
The Bears had already clinched the No. 1 seed out of Region 2B-AAAAA and will host the No. 4 seeded Grovetown Warriors from 2A-AAAAA on Friday in the region crossover series to determine state tournament berths.
Warner Robins will go on the road as the No. 3 seed and will face either Evans or Lakeside-Evans. Northside is the No. 4 seeded team and will have a tough match up with perennial power Greenbrier, which went unbeaten in subregion play.
