Warner Robins High Schools spring production will be Seussical the Musical, a show based on about 20 different works of Dr. Seuss.
Audience members will watch their favorite Dr. Seuss characters come alive on stage as the Cat in the Hat emcees the show and ties all the stories together.
The show is a kid-friendly production.
These are movies and characters -- like The Grinch -- that kids can relate to, said Warner Robins High drama director Nicholas Sostillio.
Sostillio said several different shows were considered, but Seussical the Musical was the right fit.
It had enough positions to allow everyone to have their moment in the spotlight, said Sostillio. It also presents several challenges. People are familiar with these characters, so there is a standard to uphold.
The sets were another challenge.
To have things look cartoony, we couldnt just go out and buy them, said Sostillio. Everything had to be made.
Students in primary roles in the production include Katherine Anne Bakrania as the Cat in the Hat; Zachary Sadowski as Horton the Elephant; Callie Bruce as Gertrude McFuzz; Mecca Akbar as Mayzie LaBird; Paige Brudnicki as JoJo; Chelsea Clark, Dzerrea Richarte, Jordan Engen and Kira Bowden as Bird Girls; Rafael Mora as Thing 1; and Emily Hein as Thing 2.
Shows will be at 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday. Tickets sold in advance in the school office are $8; tickets sold at the door will be $10.
Seussical the Musical doesnt mark Warner Robins Highs last production for this school year. In just two weeks, the theater department will present Miss Nelson is Missing, based on the popular book, for local elementary schools.
Sostillio said he is expecting close to 2,000 students to attend field trips to see Miss Nelson is Missing. There will also be several public performances at 7 p.m. May 2 and 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. May 3. All tickets are $5.
