Hoops big man Maten commits to Georgia

Georgia finally has a men's basketball commitment for this year's class, and it's a much-needed big man.

Yatel Maten, a post player from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., has committed to sign with the Bulldogs, his high school coach confirmed to 247Sports.com.

Maten (listed at 6-foot-8 and 225 pounds) chose Georgia despite offers from Indiana and Michigan State. He visited Georgia a week ago, and apparently it went well enough to sway him towards the Bulldogs.

It's another positive development for head coach Mark Fox, who on Wednesday was awarded a two-year contract extension following a 20-win season and NIT bid. Georgia is set to lose just one starter from last year, forward-center Donte' Williams, so Maten fits nicely into next year's plans.

Maten is rated a three-star prospect by 247Sports.

Georgia might not be done. The team has one scholarship left and a source said the Bulldogs feel good about their chances with Fred Iduwe, a 6-11 prospect originally from Nigeria.
