A mother and her children, ages 7, 14 and 16, escaped serious injury when her vehicle overturned early Friday on Interstate 75 southbound in Bibb County.

The 8:15 a.m. single-vehicle crash occurred between Hartley Bridge Road and Sardis Church Road.

The rear driver’s side tire blew, causing the mother, Jovita Rodriguez of Macon, to lose control of the 2002 Jeep Liberty and crash into a guardrail, said Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzalez. The vehicle came to rest on its top, he said.

Rodriguez and her children all were wearing seat belts and suffered only minor injures of scratches, bumps and bruises, Gonzalez said.

Rodriguez was cited with misdemeanor traffic offenses of driving while unlicensed and operating an unsafe vehicle, Gonzalez said. The operating unsafe vehicle charge came because the tire that blew was heavily worn, he said.
