Macon inmate fight death under investigation

A convicted child molester died Friday after suffering a head injury March 14 at Central State Prison on Fulton Mill Road.

Jeffrey Lee McDonald, 43, was pronounced dead at 12:53 p.m. Friday, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

“He was jumped on and suffered a closed head injury,” Jones said.

McDonald was convicted of child molestation in Rockdale County in 1996, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections website.

Late Friday, the Corrections’ public affairs department confirmed the altercation and stated in an email that the incident is under investigation.

No word on charges, or whether any person who might have dealt the fatal blow has been identified.
