The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is working with Al Sihah Shriners to promote safety during Burn Awareness Week.

Family Fun Day will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday with a free hotdog lunch at the Al Sihah Shrine Park, which is accessed off of Rocky Creek Road.

Bibb fifth and sixth graders will compete in the Fire Safety Speech Contest beginning at 1 p.m.

“It’s a great way of getting the kids to learn fire safety,” said Lt. Ellen Kicklighter, Macon-Bibb fire educator. “They have to give a four-minute speech without notes.”

College savings bonds worth $500, $200 and $100 will be awarded to the top three finishers.

Safety and other exhibits will include the Jasper County Firemen’s Show, the state fire marshal’s Safety House, Smokey Bear, the Shriners Scat Cat miniture vehicles and an antique car show.
