Broadways greatest show tunes will be belted out by 10 Australians on Saturday at the Grand Opera House.
The Ten Tenors: On Broadway will be a part of a weekend of Cherry Blossom Festival musical activities. The two Macon performances will be a bit different from the groups other performances as six students from Mercer Universitys Robert McDuffie Center for Strings will be accompanying the tenors.
This should be a fun and entertaining experience for the students to see the behind the scenes action of a big show like this, Amy Schwartz Moretti, director of the McDuffie Center for Strings, said in a news release. This is one of the many reasons why being part of the McDuffie Center is a great education for these budding musicians.
The Australian group combines sounds of rock and classical music to produce a unique two-hour opera experience. This will include their take on classics from Phantom of the Opera, Les Miserables, Oklahoma, West Side Story and Miss Saigon as well as a sampling of newer Broadway music from shows including Wicked, Rock of Ages and Spamalot.
The performance, which is part of the groups four-month U.S. tour, is the last of the Grand Opera Houses Broadway series.
