Cold may have caused minor damage to peaches

Freezing temperatures early Friday morning may have done minor damage to Middle Georgia’s peach crop.

Jeff Cook, county agent for Peach and Taylor counties, said temperatures dropped to 28.5 degrees. Ordinarily, he said, that wouldn’t be expected to cause much damage, but there could be low-lying areas where the temperatures were lower.

Peach growers typically thin the crop anyway, so some damage may not hurt.

“We probably should be OK,” Cook said.
