An inmate from Dooly County State Prison on a work detail is accused of stealing a truck in south Bibb County in an escape attempt Thursday and trying to steal a second vehicle before being captured by law enforcement.

Jamal T. Millican, 28, allegedly stole the truck about 12:35 p.m. near his work detail on North Avondale Circle, according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office news release.

The truck broke down on Hawkinsville Road near a Kohl’s warehouse. Residents began calling the sheriff’s office with reports of a suspicious person running around wearing a “prison style” jump suit.

Millican attempted to break into a second vehicle on East Drive before deputies found him in a field next to the Kohl’s and apprehended him, the release stated.

Sheriff’s deputies turned Millican over to the Georgia Department of Corrections where he will be charged with the escape. In addition, the sheriff’s office will be taking out warrants on him for the charges of theft by taking, criminal damage to property, entering auto, obstruction and providing false information.
