Bibb sheriff’s office cautions against officer impersonation phone scam

alopez@macon.comMarch 6, 2014

Scammers are impersonating law enforcement, calling people and demanding money, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office warned Thursday.

Sheriff’s deputies will never phone anybody asking for payment and neither will other police or court officers, according to a sheriff’s office news release.

During the scam calls, people are being asked to purchase Green Dot MoneyPak cards and provide the card information.

Anybody suspecting they are a target of this scam is asked to call the sheriff’s office at 478-751-7500. More information on this and other scams can be found by calling 478-803-2710.
