Buzzell: English tea, Celtic concert coming this month

March 5, 2014

Anne Sanders, a native of great Britain and resident of Warner Robins, announces that An English Afternoon Tea will be held at 2:30 p.m. March 16 at All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 1708 Watson Blvd., in Warner Robins.

Always a delightful afternoon of “traditional afternoon tea” of sandwiches and cakes, this annual event is well known in the community. Several years ago, after being welcomed by a Scottish piper playing the bagpipes in springtime weather, guests were pleasantly surprised by a light snowfall as they enjoyed their tea by the fireplace in the church Parish Hall.

Adding to the fun this year will be door prizes and a grand raffle with proceeds to benefit local charities. “The tea is a splendid way for young people, especially, to experience a real traditional English tea,” Sanders said.

Tickets for the tea are $20 each and can be obtained by calling 478-335-1487, 478-923-1791 or at the church office.

Warner Robins Community Concert Association fiddler Dana Lyn and guitarist Kyle Sanna will play traditional Celtic music at 3 p.m. March 16 at First United Methodist Church, located at 205 North Davis Drive in Warner Robins. Admission is free for students and $15 at the door for adults.

According to their publicist, Lyn and Sanna have worked together since first meeting at a traditional Irish music session in New York City. Their performances are a shared proficiency in classical, jazz, Irish and experimental music.

Both have extensive experience as arrangers, composers, players and improvisers and have been hailed as “ground breaking” by well-known folklorist Mick Moloney because of their in-depth experience with Irish music.

Lyn and Sanna have taught workshops at the Old Songs Festival, the Catskills Irish Arts Festival, the Fairbanks Summer Art Festival, Wellesley College, the University of Eastern Carolina, and West Virginia’s Augusta Heritage Center.

The duo has shared their music throughout the United States and Canada in festivals, concert halls and clubs and has released two recordings.

Also to their credit. Lyn and Sanna have collaborated with renowned Irish musicians Kevin Burke, Cillian Vallely and Susan McKeown, and actor Vincent D’Onofrio.
