A Bibb County student won the regional spelling bee in Fort Valley on Saturday and will represent the area in the state spelling bee.

Christian Lee, a Springdale Elementary fifth grader, correctly spelled “libretto” to win the competition.

Rilyn McKallip, a seventh grader at Monroe County Middle School, took second place and will also go onto the state bee to be held March 21 at Georgia State College in Atlanta.

Luke Duddles, a Warner Robins home schooled eighth grader, took third place. He will be an alternate for the state competition in case either of the top two aren’t able to make it.
