Food Depot, which announced in August it was moving into the former Fred’s on Northside Drive in Macon, is getting ready to open next month.

The discount grocery chain is planning to open March 10 with a grand opening likely to be held in April, said Jamey Leseueur, district supervisor for Stockbridge-based All American Quality Foods, doing business as Food Depot.

The store expanded from Fred’s into adjacent space and takes up about 46,000 square feet of the shopping center.

The company contacted the Georgia Department of Labor on Monday for workers and began taking applications at the store Tuesday, Leseueur said. Some people have already been hired.

“We will continue to take (applications) for the next few days,” Leseueur said. “We will hire about 100 to start with.”

The company has 33 locations including the Macon store, according to its website. Other Middle Georgia stores are in Warner Robins, Fort Valley and Dublin, where it also has a distribution center.
