A woman is in jail after allegedly attacking two people with a 2-by-4 and trying to set the house she shared with them on fire.

The incident happened Monday at a boarding house on Millerfield Road about 10:30 p.m., according to a Bibb County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

Deputies arrested Melissa Briggs, 33, and charged her with aggravated assault.

A male victim told officials that Briggs had been acting normally Monday night before becoming irate and “talking nonsense.” At one point she piled paper on top of the kitchen stove and turned on the burners in an attempt to set them on fire, the report stated.

When a female roommate left her room after smelling smoke and hearing screaming, Briggs hit her in the head with a 2-by-4, the report said. The male victim, who is blind, tried to leave the house and was hit in the back of his head.

Deputies documented the wounds of the victims, took statements from them and secured the 2-by-4 with blood stains on it for evidence.
