Authorities are investigating the Saturday afternoon death of a 17-month-old girl.

The girl reportedly was playing in a relative’s apartment on North Pierce Circle when the father, in another room, heard a noise, a Bibb Sheriff’s Office news release stated.

“He rushed into the room where his daughter was and discovered that a TV and the dresser that the TV was placed on had fallen onto his daughter,” the release stated.

The girl was rushed to a local hospital by her father where she was pronounced dead by Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

Bibb County sheriff’s Lt. Randy Gonzales said investigators and the coroner think that the death was accidental.

An autopsy is expected.
