A new business that offers defensive driving classes for teens and adults will officially open Friday in downtown Macon.

Right Start is located at 480 First St. and will hold a grand opening at 10 a.m. Friday, according to a news release.

“Right Start is committed to educating and empowering teens and adults to always be conscientious, responsible and safe drivers through the use of defensive driving and personal safety practices in order to prevent traffic violations, collisions, accidental injuries and fatalities,” owner Violet Poe said in the release. “We will utilize the curriculum of the National Safety Council and offer two defensive driving courses, Alive at 25 defensive driving course” and a six-hour driving course.

This is Poe’s first business, but she has a family history of entrepreneurship. Her father owned the New Look Club on Cotton Avenue in the 1960s and 1970s, she said.

The business will offer classes several times each week from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and 5-9 p.m.
