EVANS -- Marquez Callaway didnt need to rack his brain.
The Warner Robins sophomore just needed to think back to December to find inspiration for Tuesdays GHSA Region 2-AAAAA championship game against Northside at Greenbrier.
Even though his Demons beat the Eagles twice in region play, it was a loss to them in the championship game of the Bear Brawl before Christmas that stuck with Callaway and his teammates.
The last time we played for a trophy, they won, Callaway said. We thought about that a lot.
The Demons (24-2) won the biggest prize so far, routing Northside 67-42 to win the Region 2-AAAAA title.
Callaway led the Demons with 19 points, with 17 coming in the second half and 11 coming from the foul line. Nathan Curtis added 16 points and Samuel Harris scored 10. Darrin Clark led Northside with nine points.
This is one of the goals we set for the year, Warner Robins head coach Jamaal Garman said. So we reached this goal (Tuesday), which is a great thing and is definitely a high point of our season. Its something we really wanted, and (we) worked hard for it.
Northside (20-8) trailed by only eight at the half but was overwhelmed by Warner Robins in the third quarter. The Eagles didnt make their open looks from the outside, and the Demons defense negated any of those open looks on the inside.
The Demons opened the second half on a 10-2 run and went on a 10-1 run shortly after the first run.
Warner Robins led by 21 after three quarters and held the Eagles to only one field goal in the fourth quarter. Northside made four shots from the field in the entire second half.
We didnt shoot the ball well against them, and thats a tribute to their defense and their length and making shots difficult, Northside head coach Scott Wynn said. They were just the better team (Tuesday).
While Warner Robins won by 25 on Tuesday, the first three games in the series were decided by 20 combined points. The largest margin of victory in the first three meetings was Northsides 11-point win in the Bear Brawl championship game.
