Mercer will try for its first 4-0 start in nearly a decade on Tuesday when it welcomes Florida A&M for non-conference baseball.
The Bears and Rattlers will play at 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
Florida A&M is 2-1, and comes in with a home series win over Navy by allowing only six earned runs in three games.
Former Florida State assistant Jamey Shouppe is in his first season as head coach at Florida A&M, which hasnt been the most stable of positions in recent years. Shouppe was with the Seminoles for 21 seasons.
He is the Rattlers third head coach in less than two years. Willie Brown was fired a year ago, before the season, because of sexual harassment allegations, and assistant Brett Richardson was the interim head coach for a 7-45 season.
In that record was a 1-3 mark against Mercer, including an 11-5 win in Tallahassee. Mercer won the pair in Macon by a combined 29-4 margin.
Second-team all-conference pick Marlon Gibbs returns after batting .364 last season.
Mercer swept High Point in three pitchers duels: 5-2, 5-4 and 4-3.
The Bears will be without left fielder and leadoff hitter Nate Moorhouse (hamstring) for a few weeks.
Mercer is batting .244 after three games, but the staff has a 2.33 ERA to 4.13 for the opposition.
Nick Backlund is batting .385 and Derrick Workman .375, but Michael Massi (.286) leads Mercer with five RBI.
Mercers long homestand continues with three games this weekend against Evansville starting at 4 p.m. on Friday.
