For the second time in the three weeks, Mother Nature is in the schedule-changing business.

The Mercer men’s basketball games have been pushed back a day to Friday and Sunday because of the latest influx of bad weather.

The Bears will play Lipscomb at 7 p.m. on Friday and Northern Kentucky at 2 p.m. on Sunday.

Boston College safely landed in Atlanta before the weather got bad, but the Eagles’ men’s basketball game at Georgia Tech was still moved from Wednesday to Thursday with a 5 p.m. tipoff.

Georgia College and Clayton State moved their Wednesday basketball doubleheader at Clayton State to Monday. The Bobcats are still scheduled to welcome Columbus State for a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 5:30. It’s homecoming for Georgia College.

Wednesday’s softball doubleheader with West Georgia was postponed on Monday to March 20. Georgia Southern’s basketball team was to play UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, but that game was moved to 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Texas State and Georgia State were to play a women’s/men’s doubleheader Thursday, but those games have been shelved, as well, with no set replay date.

Kennesaw State’s baseball opener Friday against visiting Middle Tennessee State was moved to Saturday. Mercer is to open the baseball season at 4 p.m. on Friday at home against High Point, and that remains as scheduled. Weather for that day is to be near 60 and mostly sunny.

But Wednesday’s weather was repeat of two weeks ago for Mercer’s road trip to East Tennessee State and USC Upstate, also affecting Kennesaw State, Mercer’s geographical travel partner. Opponents swap Mercer and Kennesaw State on trips, so the Owls’ games against Northern Kentucky and Lipscomb also move to Friday and Sunday.

The Bears will be on a Friday-Sunday schedule for the third time in just a few weeks. They visit Florida Gulf Coast on Feb. 21 in a huge A-Sun showdown on ESPNU, and then Stetson two days later. Mercer returns home to close out the regular season against North Florida on Feb. 27 and Jacksonville on March 1.

Mercer’s women were headed toward much better weather. They play at Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday and at Stetson on Saturday.

Fort Valley State’s softball team was scheduled to play at Savannah State on Wednesday and had nothing scheduled for Thursday. The women’s and men’s basketball teams host Claflin on Saturday.

Wesleyan is set to host Johnson University, based in Knoxville, Tenn., in basketball Thursday.
