Escaped Jones County prisoner apprehended Tuesday night

A prisoner who escaped earlier in the day while being taken to Jackson State Prison was taken back into custody late Tuesday.

Michael Shane Upshaw Jr., 26, escaped while his transport van was stopped at a stop sign at Exit 201 on Interstate 75. He was walking along the interstate in Butts County when he was apprehended by Jones County deputies and members of the United States Marshals Southeastern Regional Fugitive Task Force and Georgia Department of Corrections, according to a news release.

Upshaw will be returned to Jackson State Prison by Department of Corrections officials.
