C-SPAN Macon specials to air this weekend

A pair of C-SPAN specials about Macon filmed last month as part of the C-SPAN Cities Tour will air this weekend.

Portions of the shows will air throughout the weekend, but C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3 will air the segments together at 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

C-SPAN2, also known as Book TV, will broadcast the first group of segments at 5 p.m. Saturday on Cox Communications Channel 81 in Macon. Those segments focus on Macon’s literary and civil rights history, including discussions with writers Buckner Melton Jr., Andrew Manis, Lauretta Hannon and others.

The second show airs at 5 p.m. Sunday on C-SPAN3 (Cox Channel 82), or American History TV. The program discusses Macon’s music legacy, featuring topics such as The Allman Brothers Band and Southern Rock, Otis Redding and Little Richard. It also will feature the Museum of Aviation in Warner Robins and look at the restoration project of retired Maj. Gen. Rick Goddard’s F-100 fighter jet from Vietnam. The show will examine such local landmarks as the Ocmulgee National Monument and the Hay House.
