Indoor track record set
Carson Dingler, a freshman at FPD, set a national age group record for 14-year-olds Sunday in the pole vault at the TFCUSA indoor nationals in Birmingham, Ala.
Dingler cleared 12 feet, 8 inches, an attempt that eclipsed the meet record by more than 20 inches. She already holds the Junior Olympics national outdoor age group meet record, clearing 11-7.
She will be competing for FPDs track and field team this spring.
Harrell leaving FPD volleyball
FPD will have a new volleyball head coach this fall, as Stephanie Harrell announced Monday that she will not return.
According to a release from the school, Harrell cited a desire to be closer to her family as the primary reason for her decision.
This was a tough decision for me, Harrell said in the release. FPD is an amazing place to be and everyone here does wonderful things. I will miss the players and students a lot.
The Lady Vikings have qualified for the GHSA Class A playoffs the past two seasons, the programs first two seasons of varsity play. Harrell took over for Katrina Hegeman, who started the program before becoming the head coach at Eagles Landing Christian.
Harrell went 27-40-3 at FPD, including 17-21-3 last season.
Two Westfield athletes will sign national letters-of-intent Wednesday.
Andrew Smith will sign with Georgia Gwinnett Colleges soccer team, while Reece Hickok will sign with Valdosta States cross country team.
Smith was a GISA Class AAA all-state selection last spring. Hickok finished fourth in the GISA Class AAA meet last fall.
Furman freshman and FPD graduate Grace Tinkey set a program indoor track and field record in the 3,000 meters Thursday at the High Point Team Challenge.
Tinkey finished second in the event, finishing in 9:33.36. She bested the previous mark by 16 seconds.
