Northern Kentucky tried to pull away from Mercer, with no luck.
But the Norse were able to hold off the Bears and take a 72-64 win Thursday night in A-Sun womens basketball at Hawkins Arena.
Mercer fell to 4-6 in A-Sun play, 11-10 overall. Northern Kentucky improved to 8-2 -- good for third place -- and 12-9.
Both teams had good nights moving the ball around, especially the Norse.
Northern Kentucky had 24 assists on 27 baskets, against 13 turnovers. Mercer had 18 assists and 12 turnovers.
But the huge difference came from far away. Northern Kentucky was 14-of-31 on 3-pointers to 2-of-6 for Mercer.
Kayla Thacker led all scorers with 19, and was 5-of-10 on 3s. Kaitlyn Gerrety added 17.
Briana Williams came off the bench and led Mercer with 17 points in 22 minutes, getting six assists to only two turnovers.
Kendra Grant added 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Sharnea Boykin had nine assists and one turnover in 40 minutes.
Northern Kentucky led by 13 in the first half and settled for a 34-30 lead at the break.
Mercer got its only lead on Grants jumper with 10:50 left in the game, and it lasted about a half-minute before Lauren Whites 3-pointer put the Norse back on top.
The lead grew to 10 five minutes later, but the Bears were within a possession with a minute left only for the Norse to then make a layup and four free throws to seal it.
Mercer hosts Lipscomb at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
