Macon man shot in leg at apartment complex

A 20-year-old Macon man was shot and a car was stolen in the parking lot of a Bloomfield Road apartment complex Thursday afternoon.

According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, Assad Butler was shot while sitting in a vehicle at Colony West Apartment, 5284 Bloomfield Road, about 4:30 p.m.

Officials issued warrants for Roderick Michael Lofton, 18, also of Macon.

A sheriff’s office news release said Lofton approached Butler while brandishing a handgun. The two struggled, and Butler was shot in the left leg.

Lofton sped off in Butler’s vehicle, the release said.

Butler was taken to a local hospital and was listed in stable condition.

The stolen vehicle is a silver 2000 Honda Accord with Georgia license plate PJI4300.
