A man who was shot twice Sunday night in Milledgeville died early Monday morning.

Baldwin County sheriff deputies responded to 105 Harrisburg Road about 9 p.m. Sunday and found the victim, Walter D. French, 25, with two gunshot wounds, said sheriff’s Capt. Brad King.

Emergency responders took French to the Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon where he was pronounced dead between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. Monday.

King said the neighborhood where the shooting took place is known for gang and drug activity as well as violent crime, and the sheriff’s office keeps a close watch there.

French was arrested and charged with aggravated assault in 2008 in connection with a nightclub shooting where law enforcement officials said he shot a man in the leg, according to The Union-Recorder newspaper.

In Sunday’s shooting, deputies are processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office detective division at 478-445-4893.
