Pre-K registration dates

Prekindergarten registration for Houston County schools for the 2014-15 school year will be Feb. 24-March 21.

About 1,300 children are expected to register for pre-K, and the school system advises parents to register during specific dates assigned to their school to prevent long waits. Those dates are:

• Feb. 24-28: Lake Joy, Lindsey, Parkwood, Quail Run and Westside;

• March 3-7: C.B. Watson, Eagle Springs, Miller and Northside;

• March 10-14: Bonaire, Centerville, David Perdue, Hilltop and Shirley Hills; and

• March 17-21: Kings Chapel, Langston Road, Matt Arthur, Morningside, Russell and Tucker.

Parents may register their children 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at Central Registration, 303 S. Davis Drive.

Students will be placed in a pre-K class based on a lottery drawing, according to a news release. Children must be 4 years old by Sept. 1, 2014. After registration closes, parents will be notified by mail of their child’s status.

For more information and to view a list of required documents, go to or call 478-741-3610. For more information about the pre-K program, call Director of Special Programs Ron Wilson at 478-988-6330, ext. 10330.

Prekindergarten registration for Bibb County schools for the 2014-15 school year will be 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, Feb. 3-28, except for Feb. 17. There will also be a kickoff event from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at the Welcome Center, 2003 Riverside Drive.

Parents will need to bring the following documents with them to register:

• Proof of residence (current telephone, gas, water, electric or cable bill);

• Child’s certified birth certificate, and;

• Child’s Social Security card.

There are 748 pre-K slots available to children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014. Students may attend pre-K at their zoned school or at Northwoods Academy on Pierce Avenue.

Selection is based on a random computer lottery. There is no cost to participate. If a child is selected by lottery, parents will be notified by mail by June 15. If a child’s name is not selected, his or her name will automatically be put on a waiting list. Parents will also be notified of this information by June 15.

Parents must attend a scheduled orientation before the 2014-15 school year. If they don’t, the child’s slot will be given to the next student on the waiting list.
